Flying News.... Etisalat Nigeria Changes Name

Following the directive from the parent company of Etisalat Telecoms to stop using its brand within three weeks, the Company has changed its name to 9Mobile Telecommunications Network.

The management of the firm, at the end of a management meeting in Lagos, adopted the name 9mobile as the new brand name. 

It was reported earlier that Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (ETC) who happens to be the largest shareholder in the firm, directed Etisalat Nigeria to stop using its brand name within the next three weeks, after it had terminated its management agreement with its Nigerian arm. 

Etisalat, which controls about 13 per cent market share in Nigeria, has been in a financial crisis as they have been in a running battle with a consortium of 13 banks for about 3 months. It was reported that the firm had earlier notified the banks of its inability to service its $1.2 billion debt in February due to the foreign exchange challenges in the country. 

Meanwhile, the Directors of the Company has stressed that the change of brand will not affect their business as they are positioned to come back stronger and better.
